Elect Sam Toll For County Commissioner

County Commission Race Turns Ugly

Storey County Commissioner District One Race Turns Ugly

Storey County Commission District One Candidates Clay Mitchell and I vowed to run clean campaigns. Up to this point, both candidates have stuck to the issues.

Sadly, things turned ugly when this piece of paper was tacked to the Virginia City Post Office Bulletin Board on Friday, October 9th.

This attack contains outright lies.

Here are the facts:

I am not, nor have I ever been a felon. If I was, I couldn’t vote or run for office.

I was arrested 22 years ago for doing something that is perfectly legal today. You can read about my arrest and bankruptcy (singular) here.

However, the thing that really hurts about this garbage is the statement that I have not provided for my children.

This is a flat out lie.

I raised three children who are adults. There was never any child support surrounding these children. My ex-wife and I shared joint custody and expenses of my youngest daughter for two years until she turned 18.

I have provided for my youngest son Dalton from the day he was born. His mother and I share expenses, and I am currently homeschooling him in Gold Hill while his school is on distance learning in Sacramento.

There is literally zero factual evidence to support this outright lie.

It is very disappointing that this ugliness has entered the race.

While I have no idea who put this up, I expected better from Storey County.

Storey County Commission – District One

Residents First. Special Interests and Ugliness Not First.

Editor’s note: the original version of this article could have been interpreted to suggest my opponent may have had some hand in this. I have no evidence to support that statement and have updated the piece to reflect this.
