An explosion rocked downtown Virginia City just after 9:00 am this morning at the Delta Saloon. The blast appeared to be centered in an upstairs kitchen facing B Street and blew out the Delta’s windows on C Street.
No Injuries In The Blast
“Luckily, no one appears to have been injured,” Sheriff Gerald Antinoro told the Teller. “The explosion happened just after 9:00 am this morning and the building was empty. Our initial investigation of the surrounding businesses shows them undamaged. The Fire Department is still assessing the damage and looking for the actual cause, but for now the explosion appears to be caused by a gas leak.”
Debris littered Union and B Streets and flew as far as the Courthouse. “We were sitting in our offices moving through a Tuesday morning and all of a sudden we heard a loud bang. It felt like something had hit the courthouse,” Justice of the Peace Eileen Herrington told The Teller. Courthouse employees were moved to a safe location until the situation could be assessed by the Fire Department. They returned to the Courthouse around 10:00 am.
Sam Toll,
Excellent sleuthing and pictures.
But don’t tell the judge.
He might think you are a reporter.
