Mark Twain Veterans Honored on Memorial Day
Scores of residents and officials from Storey County attended the Mark Twain Memorial Day Celebration and dedication at Mark Twain. The Ceremony was held at the Mark Twain Community Center at the new Mark Twain Veterans Memorial.
The Event was opened with an invocation by Kevin Baugh, followed by the raising of the flag by the Storey County Honor Guard.
Virginia City Highlands own Juliana Carmona, daughter of Storey County Commission Candidate Jay Carmona, sang the National Anthem and after the pledge of allegiance the recently installed Mark Twain Veterans Memorial was officially dedicated by Kris Thompson.
In his dedication, Mr. Thompson paid special tribute to the men and women who served our country in Vietnam. The Vietnam Veterans were honored as they stood with an ovation from those in attendance.
The Storey County Honor Guard gave a seven gun salute to the veterans.
A fine version of Taps was played by a Marine Corp veteran, and the event ended with a closing Benediction.
After the ceremony, those assembled enjoyed lunch catered by Storey County Commissioner’s Mustang Ranch Catering team. Mr. Gilman’s team cooked up Chicken and steak with barbequed beans, corn, potato salad, and cole slaw.
Mark Twain’s Girl Scout Troop 1650 served cake to those assembled.
