Coffee With The County Brews Conversation
A small group of folks showed up for Coffee with the County at the Roasting House in Virginia City on Wednesday. Freshly minted County Manager Austin Osborne conducted the informal get together and discussed a wide variety of matters.
Merchants, residents, prospective business interests, and the media attended the meeting. The group discussed a variety of topics, including signage along C Street, recent events, and the overall economy. Paul Hoyle of Lark Lane Hospitality attended as part of his research of the Comstock. He moved his business from Santa Barbara recently and is looking for investment opportunities on the hill. Mr. Hoyle thinks Gold Hill represents an excellent opportunity for a hospitality company to develop. Concerns about the lack of use of the Gold Hill Train Depot and overall neglect of Gold Hill were discussed.
As always, the Coffee and delicious breakfast offerings at the Roasting House helped make the meeting a winner. Thanks to them for hosting the event.
It was refreshing to see Austin holding what we hope will be regular meetings with the community. While the County will take no official action from the meeting, Osborne listened intently to the concerns and input from the group. The Teller welcomes this outreach by Mr. Osborne. Compared to the opacity of the past regime, this is a welcome step. Time will tell if there is any meaningful change to the way business as unusual is done up here in The Richest Place On Earth.
Next Stop, Mark Twain!
Osborne’s next outreach event will be in Mark Twain next week. It is a “Town Hall Workshop” and will cover the flood plan for Mark Twain community. The meeting starts at 5:30 on August 14th at the Mark Twain Community Center. Construction on upgrading the drainage system started on August 10th.
