Storey County Scoundrels at the Commissioner Meeting

Dec. 5 Commissioner Meeting Report – Nicole Barde

For those of you who don’t subscribe to the Meeting report of Nicole Barde, I am copying a link so you can check it out. I was at the meeting and remember it being the angriest I have been at the combination of self-congratulatory back-slapping and milquetoasty “decisiveness” in dealing with what I consider criminal conduct.

I am working on my response, but in the meantime, I present to you Ms. Barde’s assessment of the agenda item where instead of crawling back the graft and payola handed over to the fat cat cronies, firing Pat Whitten and putting Mike Nevin in Jail for signing his own $36,000 retirement bonus, they vowed, with steely eyes and firm jaws, to modify the job description and make Pat Whitten cross his heart and promise not to do it again.

Ever.

Ever. Ever. Ever.

Rather than admit wrongdoing and throwing himself at the mercy of the Commissioners, Pat Whitten whipped out his polished indignant card and proceeded to call Hugh Gallagher a liar. Pat was furious that he “only received these numbers last Thursday” even though he knew every detail of the Bonuses because he personally folded the Golden Parachutes for his Home Boys Nevin, Hames and Haymore behind closed doors months earlier.

Here is the agenda item description:

21. Review of monetary payments, described as buyouts, to two department heads in December 2016, January 2017 and June 2017 by the County Manager. The Board may take action, including but not limited to, determining whether the county manager had authority to make the payments, setting a review of the county managers job performance, referring the matter to an outside agency for evaluation for violation of NRS, or determine whether to recover part or all of the payments.

Reading this, I went into the meeting thinking the Commissioners may have actually stumbled across their collective spines. I thought County Manager Pat Whitten might actually get fired. I left the meeting as furious as ever at the display of gutless cowardice and the complete lack of anything that could be mistaken for leadership or competent governance.

Today Al Franken announced he would resign from the United States Senate in the coming weeks. In the span of six or so minutes, he showed more responsibility and leadership than anything we have seen in Storey County since forever.

At one point in his resignation, Senator Franken invoked the words of his predecessor Paul Wellstone with the following:

“Politics is about the improvement of people’s lives.”

Here in Storey County that reads: “Politics is about the improvement of certain people’s lives.”

And you ain’t one.

Stay Tuned…

THE COMMISSIONERS FAILED YET AGAIN TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR COMPLETE LACK OF OVERSIGHT OVER PAT WHITTEN WHICH RESULTED IN THIS PUBLIC PANTOMIME OF FAUX LEADERSHIP.

HUGH GALLAGHER PRESENTED HIS FINDING OF FACTS AND PAT WHITTTEN CALLED HIM A LIAR ….THEN PAT PRESENTED HIS OWN SET OF FACTS WHICH HAVE OTHERS CALLING PAT A PANTS ON FIRE LIAR.

NO ONE IS GETTING FIRED FOR $215K OF UNAPPROVED EXPENDITURES AT BEST OR THEFT OF PUBLIC FUNDS AT WORST.

DESPITE ALL OF THE SELF PRAISE THAT THE COMMISSIONERS HAVE HEAPED UPON THEMSELVES FOR BEING SO TRANSPARENT THE ONLY HERO HERE IS ROB DUFRESNE.

  1. Pat said in a previous commissioner meeting that “return on investment” was a private business term and does not apply to government. Yet now he says he runs the County like a business. Which is it? It sure is wonderful having everything recorded. Wait till people find out he gave himself a COLA raise last budget year, and the year before, but other employees were not eligible for COLA. This is a tactic of retiring public employees to pad their PERS account on the way out at the expense of taxpayers. This is all public record, someone just needs to request it and present it.

    • Just wait until I post the article I am working on.

Anyone who looks at the number of salary bumps given to these three criminals in question, Hames, Haymore, and Nevin by their crony overseer will spit blood.

I’m just pissed that I didn’t see it when it came up in June.
